Ready, Set, Go - Are you ready to take the next step in your career If youve been in your current position for a while now, you may feel as though its time to take on more of a challenging role. Whether you want more responsibility or a better salary, its time to take the next step in your career. The big question is, do you stay where you are or do you look elsewhere? Are you qualified? So, first of all have you gained enough experience and skills from your current position to take the next step in your career? Although you may feel bored and ready for a change of scenery, this doesnât necessarily mean that you are ready to take a higher-level position. If you are looking for more excitement or more of a challenge but you are happy where you are, schedule a meeting with your manager. If you decide to start applying for other jobs, its crucial that you donât rush into this decision and you make sure you are qualified for the roles you are applying for. You can check this Is there any room to progress? If you are working for a company who donât offer any room for progression but you know you are ready, itâs time to start updating your CV. Although you may be happy where you are, itâs good to keep progressing. You may be scared If you arenât ready to take on too much but you do want some more responsibilities, discuss this with your supervisor or manager and see what they have to offer. Although there isnât room to progress, there may be certain things that they would be happy to hand over to you in order for you to gain more experience and develop your skills further. We can sometimes get too comfortable in work, especially if itâs our first job. Try to keep challenging yourself Avoid Burnout Job burnout can occur when you feel as though you are working too hard or you are losing interest in your job. This may happen when you are overachieving or when you dont feel as though your efforts are noticed in work. If you feel as though your work performance is worsening and your interest is becoming less and less, address this as soon as possible. Talk this through with your manager and see what resolutions they have to offer, they may schedule regular catch ups with you or even offer you some extra tasks to help you feel engaged again. If they dont offer any resolutions, its definitely time to take the next step in your career elsewhere!
